  1. Science Log 9-6-13 You & a friend decide to have some popcornwhile studying. You put the bag of popcorn in the microwave oven, push the buttons, and wait. The microwave oven sounds like it's working, but after a couple of minutes, it's clear the popcorn didn't pop. I can explain possible reasons why the popcorn didn't pop! I can also list steps to locate the problem!
  2. Steps of the Scientific Method The Scientific Method: a series of steps that scientists and engineers use to answer questions, solve problems, and create new technologies! Technology: the application of knowledge, tools, and materials to solve problems and accomplish tasks. ALSO refers to the objects used to accomplish tasks. Examples???
  3. 1) Problem *Needs to be written in question form *What are you trying to solve?
  4. 2) Background Research *Gaining information about the problem
  5. 3) Form a Hypothesis *Make an educated prediction to a solution for the problem based on background knowledge
  6. 4) Test the Hypothesis *Develop an experiment to test the hypothesis
  7. 5) Analyze Results *Incorporate the data from the experiment into charts or graphs
  8. 6) Conclusion *Relate the results of the testing back to the problem ** Steps can be used in almost ANY order! What's behind this box?
  9.  Hypothesis: an educated guess based on observations Theory: a unifying explanation for a broad range of hypotheses and observations that have been supported by testing. CAN be modified. Scientific Law: a summary of many experimental results and observations. A scientific law CANNOT be broken!! Control: a factor in an experiment that remains consistent or is regulated throughout the experiment. Variable: the ONE factor in an experiment that changes with each trial. So what's a "variable"??
