Story of Hosea By: Isabel, Anna, Jasmine, and Jocelyn
POP QUIZ • Chapters 1-3 • 1. What did Hosea’s wife do to him? • 2. What did God tell Hosea to do to his wife? • 3. What will the Israelites do? (in the end of chapter 3)
Hosea • Was a prophet for about 50 years in Israel • His name means Salvation • God’s command to Hosea: • God told Hosea to marry Gomer, knowing that she was a prostitute • God ordered Hosea to marry Gomer because of reasonable reasons • God shows that with Gomer and Hosea, although the Israelites obey other gods and did wickedness, God will still love them and be with them.
God, Hosea, and Israelites • All of Hosea’s children’s names were all chosen negatively by God • Zereel - “God Scatters.” • Lo-Ruhamah - “Not Pitied.” • Lo-Ammi - “Not My People.” • This is all about God and Israelite’s relationship
Israelite’s Unfaithfulness • 1. Lying- Hosea 11:12 • 2. Murder- Hosea 4:2 • 3. Insincerity- Hosea 6:6-7 • 4. Idolatry- Hosea 4:11-14 • In conclusion with Gomer and Israelites: • Gomer runs after another man - physical adultery. • Israel runs after other gods - spiritual adultery.
Overall Theme • Even though we disappoint God everyday, God still forgives and loves us • Hosea 11:8-9 • This shows that God basically won’t carry out his anger on us because He is holy and not sinful humans like us
Activity • 1. How would you feel if you know that God is disappointed in you? Why? • 2. Why do you think that God still loves us even though we do wickedness and sin? • *Get in groups and discuss this. We will share this in class*
Homework: • Write two paragraphs: one about the total summary of the book of Hosea, one about the contrast between Gomer and the Israelites. • You will do this in evernote, and send it to Jasmine
Additional Points…by Mrs. Bennett The key to understanding the book of Hosea is the analogy between Hosea's experience with Gomer and the Lord's experience with Israel. Hosea was a living example of the lesson intended. The tender loving God was offering one last chance of restoration to Israel which had committed spiritual adultery. Out of his own experience Hosea came to understand as none other could the feelings of the Lord for Israel.
