Workplace Accidents/Injuries • Definition of a workplace accident or injury as defined by WSIB: • a wilful and intentional act, not being the act of the worker • a chance event occasioned by a physical or natural cause, and • disablement arising out of and in the course of employment • Reporting Workplace Accidents: • Workplace accidents/injuries must be reported to Human Resource Services if the worker, • Seeks medical attention from a health care practitioner and/or • Incurs an absence from work (referred to as a lost time injury) • Complete an Online Incident Report Form (OLIR) to report accident: • http://safetyreport.wcdsb.ca/

  3. Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) • All hazardous materials used in the workplace, i.e., schools, must be properly labeled. • All 8 WHMIS symbols are identified in the Health & Safety brochure – Please review in your brochure.

  4. Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) • For employees using hazardous materials – access and utilize the MSDS on the Health & Safety website • Click on the MSDS icon at the bottom of the page http://safety.wcdsb.ca/welcome.html • REMINDER: Do not bring products (i.e. cleaning or chemical) from home to school

Universal Precautions • Five Steps of Universal Precautions: • Education • Hand Washing • Wearing Protective Barriers • Cleaning Contaminated Surfaces • Disposal of Contaminated Articles • To learn more about Universal Precautions refer to AP memo Guidelines for Prevention & Management of Infectious Diseases and Other Conditions in Schools. https://www.wcdsb.ca/ap_memos.html • Staff are allowed to bring in hand sanitizers for their own use, not to be shared with students.

Health & Safety Information • First Aid Tips • If you have caused or were involved an accident the minimum you must do is call 911 Review the Health & Safety brochure to understand the procedures of dealing with a medical emergency or crisis. • Fire Prevention • Upon Discovery of Fire: • Call 9-1-1 • Sound fire alarm • Close doors • Leave fire area immediately • Leave building via nearest exit • Do not use elevator Review the Health & Safety brochure for further information on “Fire Prevention”
