Course Reports’ Feedback2008-2009 Assessment Cycle 2008-2009 Results • Each course report • Reported on previous course specific recommendations. • Included recommendations for future course offerings • Broader impact recommendations: • CPE 387 – Embedded Systems • “It was noticed that some students do not register CpE 387 directly after finishing the microprocessors course CpE 286. There might be sometimes a difference of two or three semesters. It is recommended that students take CpE 387 directly after they finish CpE 286.” • CS 102 – Intro to Computing II (2007-2008) • In response to the 2007-2008 recommendation, the matter was discussed in the software thread committee and the following action taken: • “Proving algorithmic correctness” was rejected as a topic in CS102 for three main reasons: • It allowed more coverage to sorting and complexity analysis • It allowed more focus on the necessary OO and Java-language-specific topics (this is also the first semester this course is being taught using Java vs. C++ which was the language of instruction earlier. • It was better-suited for the CS follow-on course, CS329, Introduction to Analysis of Algorithms. Time constraints simply too great to over proving techniques and applications to algorithms.
