Join us for 6th Grade Parent Night, where you'll learn about academic performance, extracurricular activities, and resources available for your child this year. Meet our dedicated teachers and counselors who support student success—from sports programs to student council, NJHS, and more. Understand the promotion policy, the new math textbook, and how to best support your child during their important middle school transition. We encourage open communication; please bring any questions you might have. Together, we can ensure a successful school experience!

  3. Curriculum • Spring Board • Math Textbook- New this year • Wheel?? What happens in January? • 1 Binder school wide district initiative • FCAT 6TH Grade Math /Reading only • Hillsborough Writes given through Language Arts class.

What is happening to my child??? • They are: • Trying to achieve personal independence • Attempting to develop new and more mature relations with peers of both sexes • Achieving emotional independence from parents and adults • Desiring and achieving socially responsible behaviors (taking account values of society)

  6. Meet Your Counselors • What do they do? • Schedule students • Academic planning • Career classroom guidance • Education on College • Social Issues/Crisis • Academic interventions • When should I contact them? • When you are concerned about the academic or social progress of your child

Conferences in the Middle SchoolWhat are the differences? • Need an appointment • The main purposes for conferences are for students who are struggling academically or socially • Use conference night and/or emails to address other questions • Use Edline to monitor your students progress • 6th Grade Team Leaders: • Peregrines: Ashley Charrett • Osprey: William Fried • Gryfalcons: Alan Alvarado

  8. Typical 6th Grade Schedule • Language Arts • Math • Geography • Science • Wheel (electives) • Reading • PE • What is the difference between regular and advanced???

  9. Promotion Policy • To pass an annual course, students must earn at least two quality points per semester.

  10. The “Point” System

  11. Promotion Policy • Example: A student earns a “C” 1st grading period and a “C” Second grading period

  12. Promotion Policy • Example: A student earns an “F” 1st grading period and a “D” Second grading period

  13. ELP • ELP Grade Enhancement is offered to students before school who have earned an “F” during the nine weeks in a core class. Transportation is not provided for ELP. • Assemblies are held with students who need ELP and they are given a letter to bring home to you. An automated call goes home to every parent whose students letter we do not get back. Make sure your phone numbers are correct.

  14. ELP • Students may earn a quality point for the course with successful completion of ELP • The quality point may be applied to any nine-week grading period
