Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen praised yesterday's Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon as a success, attributing the high turnout to desirable weather conditions. Especially popular was the 10km race, with 31,783 participants out of 33,000 registered entries. Mr. Ko, one of the organizers, highlighted the favorable conditions and growing health awareness in the community as factors contributing to the event's success. The event started at 5:15am with a comfortable temperature of around 19 degrees Celsius, making it an enjoyable experience for the runners. The changing attitudes towards public health and the recognition of distance running as beneficial exercise also played a significant role in attracting more participants.
