  3. Getting the gender right is important in order to avoid confusion and to speak the language correctly. The = le – goes before masculine nouns A/an = un – goes before masculine nouns The = la – goes before feminine nouns A/an = une – goes before feminine nouns BUT: l’ (‘the’ before a vowel or h) & les (‘the’ before plurals) go with either gender!

  12. How does this help us with nouns? • In certain languages the adjective is agreed with the noun. • French, German, Spanish, Italian are just a few of these. • This is very different from the English. • He is tall. • She is tall. • The adjective does not change!

  13. Now let‘s look at it in French. • Il est grand. • Elle est grande. • The feminine adds an -e
