Chinese Studies • Degree of Master of Arts (M.A.) by Coursework • Course Objective • To encourage research in Chinese Studies, to promote Chinese culture and to provide graduate training for candidates from educational, journalistic and other relevant professions. • Area of research • Chinese Linguistics, Chinese Literature, Chinese history, Chinese philosophy, translation between Chinese and English, Southeast Asian Chinese, etc. • The course may be offered on a full-time (minimum 12 months) or part-time (minimum 24 months) basis. • Candidates will have to read 10 modules.

A good Masters degree in a relevant discipline Or an Honours degree (at least 2nd class Upper) or equivalent (4 year degree with average grade above B) in a relevant discipline, subject to approval by the Faculty, on a case-by-case basis TOEFL / IELTS Graduate Record Examination (GRE) (selected departments) Admission Requirements:

  12. 85 for the internet-based test (with a minimum score of 22 for the writing section); or 580 for the paper-based test; or 237 for the computer-based test. TOEFL/IELTS For Applicants whose native tongue and medium of university instruction is not English The following minimum TOEFL score is required: Alternatively, an IELTS result of 6.0 is required.

  13. Note: Some Departments/Programmes may set higher Requirements than those stated above. TOEFL and IELTS are only valid for two years after the test and the validity should not expire before the beginning of the application period for the research programme. TOEFL/IELTS For Applicants whose native tongue and medium of university instruction is not in English

Graduate Record Examination • Applicants to the following departments/programmes are required to submit the GRE score report: • (a) Cultural Studies in Asia; • (b) Political Science; & • (c) Psychology •  No minimum score stated but General Test [and Psychology Subject Test for (c)] have to be taken

Economics • Degree of Master of Social Sciences (Applied Economics) by Coursework • Course Objective • Designed for students who wish to advance their studies in how the economy works in a globalized environment • Areas • Financial economics, economic development and policies, and international economics. • Candidates will have to read 10 modules on a full-time or part-time basis. • Candidates are required to take 3 core foundation modules and are free to choose the other 7 elective modules to take.
