  2. Colors can be used as symbols • Symbol: a person, a place, a thing, or an event that has meaning in itself and stands for something beyond itself as well. • For ex. The bald eagle

  3. Black • Power, sexuality, sophistication, formality, elegance, wealth, mystery, fear, evil, unhappiness, depth, style, evil, sadness, remorse, anger, anonymity, underground, good technical color, mourning, death (Western cultures)

  4. White • Reverence, purity, birth, simplicity, cleanliness, peace, humility, precision, innocence, youth, winter, snow, good, sterility, marriage (Western cultures), death (Eastern cultures), cold, clinical.

  5. Grey/Gray • Security, reliability, intelligence, staid, modesty, dignity, maturity, solid, conservative, practical, old age, sadness, boring

  6. Purple • Royalty, nobility, spirituality, ceremony, mysterious, transformation, wisdom, enlightenment, cruelty, arrogance, mourning. • Lavender symbolizes femininity, grace and elegance.

  7. Blue • Peace, tranquility, cold, calm, stability, harmony, unity, trust, truth, confidence, conservatism, security, cleanliness, order, loyalty, sky, water, technology, depression, appetite suppressant. • Turquoise symbolizes calm. Teal symbolizes sophistication. Aquamarine symbolizes water. Lighter turquoise has a feminine appeal.

  8. Green • Nature, environment, healthy, good luck, renewal, youth, spring, generosity, fertility, jealousy, inexperience, envy, misfortune, vigor.

  9. Yellow • Joy, happiness, betrayal, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine, summer, gold, philosophy, dishonesty, cowardice, jealousy, covetousness, deceit, illness, hazard and friendship.

  10. Orange • Energy, balance, enthusiasm, warmth, vibrant, expansive, flamboyant, demanding of attention.

  11. Red • Excitement, energy, passion, love, desire, speed, strength, power, heat, aggression, danger, fire, blood, war, violence, all things intense and passionate.

  12. Brown/beige/ivory •  Earth, stability, hearth, home, outdoors, reliability, comfort, endurance, simplicity, and comfort. • Beige and ivory symbolize unification. • Ivory symbolizes quiet and pleasantness. calm and simplicity.

  13. Pink • Pink symbolizes love and romance, caring, tenderness, acceptance and calm.

  14. Simile • Simile: like or as • I am like a yellow daisy, bright and cheerful. • I am as yellow as a light bulb, smart like a teacher. • I am like the sun, bright and warm.

  15. Metaphor • Metaphor • I am a tall tree • I am a $100 bill • I’m a fast cheetah • I’m a black cloud • Furious storm • Shy Panda • Great eagle • Volcano waiting erupt

  16. Alliteration • Alliteration: the repetition of a consonant. • Ex. Sally sold seashells • Green grass grew,

  17. Assonance • Assonance: repetition of a vowel sound. • Ex. The mean wife screams in her dreams

  18. Personification • Possible Bonus points: • Personification, giving human traits to something not human. • ex. The stars danced. • ex. The moon walked • ex. The radio screamed
