Administrative Professionals Series 1 Managing & Organizing Time & Work
WIIFM • What’s in it for me? • What’s the positive • What will I get out of it • Transition’s more the problem than the change • Gather as much information as possible • Get details first
Hopper – Yes I am! • Enjoy having a number of irons in fire • Likes to multi-task • Interrupts something to work on something else just remembered • Tasks unfinished • Easily distracted • Trouble remembering where I put things
Perfectionist – I have Some Tendencies • Irritated by others that are dis-organized • Re-write letters/reports until just right • Miss deadlines getting too involved in details • Very detail oriented, mention all • Frustrated if all items on “to do” list are not complete
ALLERGIC TO DETAIL – sometimes yes, sometimes no • I like detail (I type paragraphs in email vs. one or two lines) • I sometimes skip details (I scan an article vs. reading in full) • I write notes if I can’t deliver a message in person or by phone. • I quickly scan mail for items of interest and toss the rest. • I skip details when in a rush but don’t like doing so.
fence sitter - I am at times • Sometimes I have trouble making decisions, most often I go with “gut” instinct/feeling • I put off making decisions/pressure myself to make right decision • I worry about having enough info to make a decision • I look for too many alternatives/possibilities • I miss favorable outcomes by holding out • I worry about right and wrong
Cliff Hanger-Oh yes, by all means • I put off until last minute often • I thrive on pressure/deadlines/pushing the clock • I get bored if things are going too smoothly • No grass grows under my feet; always on the fly; on the run • I put off buying gifts until the last minute and then scramble • I feel exhilarated completing an important task or meeting a deadline
