  1. Decimal Operations Multiplying and Dividing Decimals

  2. You can multiply decimals using the same strategies you use to multiply whole numbers. What is 0.9 x 3? To place the decimal point in the product, count the total number of digits after the decimal point in each factor. 0.9 1 place x 3 0 places 2.7 Count 1 place from the right to place the decimal point. Then, count in that many places from the right of the product to place the decimal point.

  5. Let’s try some word problems now. • One cosmonaut spends 80 days in space. He spends 0.4 of those days in the ISS. How many days does he spend in the ISS?

  6. Great job with that one try this one. • Sophia runs 0.8 of a mile on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. She does not run any other days during the week. How many miles does she run in 1 week?

  7. Try this one on your own. Then we’ll work it together. • Miguel purchased 1.8 pounds of bananas at $1.25 a pound. How much did Miguel pay for his bananas?
