UMDs (ultra-mobile devices) are becoming an explosive new market because they have that perfect blend of size and power. UMDs consist of UMPCs, netbooks, and MIDs Processors based on the x86 architecture hold a key advantage in that they are compatible with all x86-based applications – the same PC applications most people use today. If new software is made for PCs, then as long as a UMD has enough processing power and RAM, it can run on a UMD with little to no change. If any change is made, it would perhaps be to accommodate the smaller screen and resolution of some UMDs. ABI research Sept 2008
