  1. Timand Bates Former Associate Dean of Students at Bard College

  2. Timand Bates is a seasoned educator and higher education leader with over two decades of experience spanning teaching, program development, and student affairs.

  3. Most recently, as Program Manager at the Open Society University Network (OSUN), he oversaw an $850k Open Society Foundation grant to deliver global liberal arts courses to over 800 students in 45 institutions.

  4. Timand Bates previously served as Associate Dean of Students at Bard College, where he led teams supporting student retention, crisis response, and inclusive programming for upperclassmen.

  5. Timand Bates’s leadership extends to international education, having taught and mentored teachers in Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh through OSUN and Bard’s MAT program. A Columbia University graduate with an M.A. in the Teaching of English, he began his career with literacy initiatives in California, later earning tenure as an NYC public school teacher.

  6. An advocate for educational equity, Timand Bates has developed innovative student-centered programs in both traditional and nontraditional settings, including correctional facilities and refugee camps. His work has been featured on NPR’s The Academic Minute and at global academic conferences.
