  6. 5. Pictographs Pictures drawn or painted on cave walls, ledges, and cliffs

  7. 6. Petroglyphs Carvings made in rock

  8. 7. Pemmican A mixture of animal fat and berries used by some Native American tribes in order to preserve meat JERKY

  9. 8. Atlatl A hand-held spear thrower

  10. 9. Extended families Families that include grandma, grandpa, mom, dad, sister, brother

  11. 10. Band Two or more extended families that lived together under one leader

  12. 11. Tribe A number of bands that followed the same leader and share the same territory and culture

  13. 12. Confederacies Alliances of people or groups that unite for a common purpose

  14. 13. Tipis Cone-shaped tents made of poles covered with animal skins used as dwellings by some Native Americans groups

  16. 15. Nomads People who wander from place to place in search of food

  17. 16. Allies People who help each other in order to benefit them both

  19. 18. Adobe A mix of wet clay and straw that is made into bricks and dried in the sun

  20. 19. Kiva A large room used for meetings and religious ceremonies among the Pueblo peoples

  21. 20. Reservations Land set aside by the government for use by Native Americans

  22. 21. Missionaries People sent to a place to convert the local population to a new religion
