Introduction • Recently, FamilySearch has been using a new indexing program to index millions of records. Go to http://www.familysearchindexing.org/home.jsf to sign on. You can either click on “Starting Indexing” if you are a current volunteer, or click on “Volunteer” to register. Since most will be new, we will navigate through the “Volunteer” segment.
Install indexing software, or, if already accomplished, begin indeing.
Be sure to say yes three times when prompted to say yes (the last time is a warning about how much disk space is available versus how much the program will take up).
Back to the install indexing sofwtare page or begin indexing.
Begin indexing. Select record type first. This is not a choice of which type of record you want to index. On the right, it I s a list of record types you want to see examples of. On the left, it is a description of the type of record you see on the screen. (You are not given a choice as to which record type you index.)
To choose this option, you must confirm that you are disconnected from the Internet.
You can either work, submit, or return batch. • Work on batch allows you to continue as you were, entering names, etc. • Submit batch allows you to submit an entire batch once you are finished with it. • Return the batch without working any more (all changes will be lost and it will be given to another person).
