Common Core State Standards (CCSS) KCUSD’s Plan for CCSS May 26, 2011
What are the Common Core State Standards? The Common Core Standards were developed by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center). This initiative includes parents, educators, content experts, researchers, national organizations and community groups from 48 states, 2 territories and the District of Columbia. The CCSS exist within a multilevel system of resources, support, feedback, and accountability encompassing the nation, state, districts, schools and classrooms. Moving from legislation and policy to concept to planning and into practice will require time-intensive involved, in-depth, collaborative work over several years.
What are the Common Core State Standards? The final CCSS were released on June 2, 2010. California adopted its version of these standards in August 2010, now commonly called the Common Core Standards (CCS). Successful execution lies in detailed actions at the district and site levels to impact the instructional core― the interaction between teacher, student and content that creates the basis of learning to high levels.

CSUF Doctoral Students2011 Summer Project Common Core State Standards - Development of website resources for planning, communicating, and professional development For this project, a team of doctoral students will research and develop website/electronic resources, PowerPoint presentations, webinars, links, and guiding documents on the Common Core State Standards. The team would also work with the district’s Common Core State Standards Guiding Coalition to develop a 3 year planning matrix to include progress check points, and a communication and professional development plan for the 2011-12 school year.
Next Steps • If we have the right folks on the CCSS Guiding Coalition…. • Then I will invite them to participate in the training this summer 2-4 days depending… • And they would come back for a half day in with the CSUF students to provide recommendations and input for our 3 year plan.
