  1. Common Core State Standards (CCSS) KCUSD’s Plan for CCSS May 26, 2011

  2. What are the Common Core State Standards? The Common Core Standards were developed by the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center). This initiative includes parents, educators, content experts, researchers, national organizations and community groups from 48 states, 2 territories and the District of Columbia. The CCSS exist within a multilevel system of resources, support, feedback, and accountability encompassing the nation, state, districts, schools and classrooms. Moving from legislation and policy to concept to planning and into practice will require time-intensive involved, in-depth, collaborative work over several years.

  3. What are the Common Core State Standards? The final CCSS were released on June 2, 2010. California adopted its version of these standards in August 2010, now commonly called the Common Core Standards (CCS). Successful execution lies in detailed actions at the district and site levels to impact the instructional core― the interaction between teacher, student and content that creates the basis of learning to high levels.

  4. What are the Common Core State Standards? • Aligned with college and work expectations • Internationally benchmarked to ensure that students will be globally competitive • Focused and coherent • Include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order thinking skills • Internationally benchmarked so that all students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society • Based on evidence and research
