How to Cost Your BOM • Get Materials Information from Web: • Density (mass per unit volume) • www.matweb.com (or similar) • Note the density for each req’d mat’l (g/cc3) • Cost (cost per unit volume, or cost per unit) • www.mcmaster.com or www.onlinemetals.com (etc) • Calculate price/unit volume for large piece • Calculate cost/unit for fasteners for large quantity • From Excel, for the BOM: • Multiply to find price/unit • Roll up sub-assembly costs to find total cost/assembly • NOTE: This is only the material cost, there are additional costs reflected in the purchase price! Project Components • Project Toy: • Teams of about 4 students • Parts Needed: • All part details & 5 assemblies of the design packet (team) • Roof (necessary views) • Cab • Seat • Engine Housing • Carriage, Wheels, Gears, Tread • (2) Arm Links, Cylinder, Slide • End Effector, Joints, Blade • Bill of Material with Cost Roll-Up (Excel Spreadsheet 8-1/2 x 11 format) • Cover Sheet (Installation Drawing) • All drawings on Team-Formatted Title Blocks • Produce entire model on 3-D Printer (.STL files → .Thing files) • Need a pretty solid base • Printing overhangs is a problem → use (breakaway) supports • One alternate end effector from each team member (bonus pts!) • Team Design Packet: (turn in electronically by 1:00 PM on Wed. 13 DEC) Sub-Assembly Sub-Assembly Sub-Assembly Final Assembly Sub-Assembly Engineering Graphics & 3-D Modeling

Submission Instructions To submit your team’s term project, do the following steps: • Open the F: drive from your computer • Go to the folder labeled tmpfiles • Go to the folder labeled IENG 248 Term Projects • Create/find the folder with your team name, and open it • Copy all of the following files into the folder: • Each individual part file • Each individual drawing file • Any assembly file(s) • Any other files that your team wishes to submit for grading • Send an e-mail to the instructor with the following subject: IENG Final Project – and add your team name at the end • In the body of the e-mail text: • List each team member and the part files / drawings / etc. that they created for the project – one student per line. • Hit the send button • Go enjoy your break!
