  1. Disappointments(New) Christians Face

  2. From Joy to Disappointment • Becoming a Christian is a joyous occasion (Acts 8:39; 16:34) • The devil is waiting for you after baptism (Mt. 3:13 – 4:1) • The devil wants to use your problems to his advantage (1 Cor. 7:5; 2 Cor. 2:11)

  3. Disappointed by Self New Christians soon discover that their old temptations and sins are still around and still strong (Acts 8:18-24) Remember, transformation (Rom.12:1-2) and putting off the old man (Col.3:5-11) is an on-going process

  4. Disappointed by Self • Remember, God is willing to forgive and you do not have to sin (Jas. 4:7; 1 Jn.1:7 - 2:1, 14) • Remember, after you fail, you can succeed (Lk. 22:32; Jn. 21:19) • Remember, some Christians make it to the end (2 Tim. 4:6-8; Heb. 11:13)

  5. Disappointed by the Unfaithful • New Christians see the imperfections, inconsistencies, and hypocrisy in the lives of unfaithful brethren. They see that some brethren don’t practice what they preach. They see ill treatment in the building, social media, etc.

  6. Disappointed by the Unfaithful • Remember, not every Christian in the local church is unfaithful (3 Jn. 9-11; Rev. 2:13, 24; 3:4) • Remember, keep your eyes on Jesus, not on other Christians (Heb. 12:2)

  7. Disappointed by the World • New Christians see that wicked and worldly people are just as prosperous, or more so, than they are • Remember, God has a time coming to judge them for their wickedness (Psa. 73:18)

  8. Disappointed by the Preacher • New Christians may hear “negative” preaching such as exposing worldliness, denominations, etc. • Remember, God’s word (2 Tim.3:16-17) and faithful preaching (2 Tim.4:1-2) will contain some “negative” material

  9. Disappointed by the Preacher • Remember, the important thing is that Christ is proclaimed (Phil. 1:15-18) • Remember, a preacher’s rebuke, when taken the right way can make us a better person (Gal. 2:11-14; 2 Pet. 3:15)

  10. Disappointed by Life • New Christians soon find that their life has problems: illness, job loss, etc. • Remember, adversity makes us a better person (Jas. 1:2-4) • Remember, physical problems do not take away from our spiritual blessings (2 Cor. 4:8-10, 16; 6:10; Jas. 2:5)

  11. Disappointed by Life • Remember, nothing can separate you from God (Rom. 8:37-39; 2 Tim. 4:18; Heb. 13:5-6)

  12. Disappointments • There may be other disappointments • Jesus will never disappoint you!
