  1. Three Levels of Questioning Cinderella’s Tale

  2. Level 1 Questions • Recall questions. The answer is in the text; it is fact and can not be disputed. • Example: • What were Cinderella’s shoes made out of? • How did Cinderella get to the ball?

  3. Level 2 Questions • Analysis/Inference. Implicit or what is implied; analysis, ask how and why, require analysis of the text, reading between the lines, hidden meaning. • Example: • Why does Cinderella's stepmother care whether or not she goes to the ball? • Why did everything turn back the way it was except the glass slipper? • Why don't the step sisters like Cinderella?

  4. Level 3 Questions • Synthesis. Go beyond the text and inquire into the value, importance and application of the information presented. • Example: • Does a woman's salvation always lie with a man? • What does it mean to live happily ever after? • Does good always overcome evil?

  5. Assignment • Come up with three questions; one for each level of questioning. • Due: Monday; this is your test over Tangerine • Prepare for class discussion lead by YOUR questions. • Grade will be based on your questions and how well you participate in the discussion.

  6. Socratic Discussion • Classroom will be set up in an inner/outer circle formation (14 inside – half the class) BE RESPECTFUL AT ALL TIMES!
