  3. Who • Shaka Zulu was Ruler of Zulu empire • Shaka Zulu was exiled as a child and moved to Mtetwa and enetred the military and moved up in the ranks • Shaka Zulu took over the kingdom when Dingiswayo died • When Dingiswayo ruled it was called the Mtetwa Empire

Where • Modern day Kwazulu-Natal Province is located in Southern Africa • Populated by Nguni-Speaking tribes and clans of the Bantu people of Southeastern Africa • Shaka Zulu had conqured from the Sea in the east to the Ginsberg Mountains in the west and the Pongola River in the north to the Banshee River in the south this land was around 11,500 square miles big.

  6. When • Shaka Zulu assumed power in 1818 • Shaka was assassinated in 1828 by his half brother Dingane because he was very brutal and killed a lot of people. • His half brother took power after his assassination. • In 1879 the Zulu empire fell to the British

  7. Key info • Shaka enforced the most ferocious brutality among his opponents • All the Clans in the kingdom had to subject themselves to one leader(Shaka) • Shaka would raid Zulu villages and burn them down sparing no one. • He also Created a Centralized Monarchy • EVERYONE feared Shaka Zulu

How • Shaka Zulu conquered all Clans in Southern Africa during the 10 years he had power • After Shaka Zulus death the Kingdom began its decline • He created the most powerful kingdom in Southern Africa ever. • After the British defeated them 1879 in they split the kingdom into 13 separate Chiefdoms reducing the kings and chiefs to minor functionary's. • The British attacked because they saw the Zulu kingdom as a threat to their economic interest.
