  2. Breakdown of the test • Day One: Writing • One Expository Essay • One Literary Essay • One Field Test Question • 36 multiple choice revising and editing section • Day Two: Reading • Reading passages (number unknown) • Multiple choice questions • Two short answer responses

  3. Don’t Forget! • You may use a dictionary the entire test • You have four hours each day • Time does not stop if you go to the restroom • You may not discuss any portion of the test with me at any point

  4. Reading Comprehension Strategies READ THE PASSAGES! Highlight important details Confirm your answer selections with the text!!

  5. Short Answer Reminders • Step One: Answer the question! • Read the prompt CAREFULLY! • Step Two: Provide TEXT EVIDENCE • You must use a quote to support your answer • Use one quote from each selection on the crossover • Embed your quotations!! • Make sure your quote supports your response • Step Three: Add commentary • Do not leave a quote “floating” • Your commentary should explain “how” or “why the text evidence supports your answer

  6. Expository Essay Reminders • Pre-writing is a must! • Form paragraphs! • Have a clear thesis statement • Support your thesis with specific examples • Choose “profound examples” • Write a conclusion with a final thought

  7. Literary Essay Reminders TELL A STORY! Use imagery, detail, description, and dialogue Develop believable characters Develop a conflict and resolution that pertains to the prompt You do not need to start a new paragraph for dialogue!

  8. Revising and Editing Tips READ the passage MARK the text for errors INCORPORATE the answers back into the text ELMINATE poor answer choices

  9. Are you ready? Sleep tonight! Eat breakfast on Mondayat home or school! Bring a book for after the test Bring a jacket Wear comfortable clothes- but not pajama pants! Wear a watch if you want to track your own time Be sure to turn off your phone and give it to your teacher Bring your own pencil Take a “mini-break” if you need to do so Remember: You are a Stutz-kid, and Stutz-kids are boss.
