Fault-Tolerant Predictive Controller for Industrial Dearomatization Process Enhancement

This doctoral dissertation by Markus Kettunen presents a fault-tolerant control (FTC) strategy designed to mitigate the impact of faults in sensors, analyzers, and actuators within an industrial dearomatization process. Funded by the Academy of Finland, the project aimed to enhance process performance and profitability at the Neste Oil Naantali refinery. Key results include improved control performance, higher product quality, reduced off-spec production, lower energy consumption, and enhanced profitability, achieving a payback period of less than one year for the FTC strategy implementation.
