Misunderstandings Clarification • Short history: • at the last EUROCRIS membership meeting in Helsinki some 20 participants agreed to contribute in setting up a common European classification of types and roles of research entities • we aim to do it by collecting from all national roles/types which can be identified from the national CRIS systems. • after collection we will: • extract the most overlapped structure of roles and types provide the mappings between the common and national roles (mappings would carry the • expressions like "is a subtype of", "is equal to" and • "is a super type of") CERIF2006-1.1 - November 2007, Vienna

Misunderstandings Clarification In general two problems occurred: people did not send the types/roles classification (instead of this we got contents classification like scientific disciplines etc., which belong to step 2) the received data of roles/types was at a certain amount not limited to real classification lookup tables with a predefined limited set of values but was related to ordinary free text (lookup tables represent a limited set of possibilities, like for instance LANGUAGE, COUNTRIES, …whereas free text is used for descriptive fields like name, abstract, … ) Current status and next steps: we finally got data from about 8 countries in the future we want to concentrate on the mappings by working in a smaller group (up to 4 countries) each country will help to do the mapping between his and the other 3 countries by filling out a selected E-questionnaire CERIF2006-1.1 - November 2007, Vienna
