  3. New elements in the “European Cinema Yearbook – 2004 advance edition” • collection of data from 33 European countries, thanks to the recent addition of Malta • extension of the section devoted to Central-Eastern-Europe and the Mediterranean Rim, thanks to the inclusion of new tables

  4. New elements in the “European Cinema Yearbook – 2004 advance edition” • extension of the section on cinema-going worldwide, with 9 markets monitored: • United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, South Korea, Russia, New Zealand, Israel

New elements in the “European Cinema Yearbook – 2004 advance edition” • section devoted to the multiplexes operating in Europe on 1st January 2004, with new data on the year they opened and their catchment areas, and including a list of multiplexes operating in Russia • section devoted to digital films and digital cinemas (equipped with DLP CinemaTM technology) worldwide, updated as at June 2004

  6. Cinema-going in Western Europe in 2003 ADMISSIONS • 2003 recorded a total drop of 5.1% in admissions: • from 958 million in 2002 to 909 million in 2003 • admissions are falling on the 5 main markets : D: -9.1%, F: -5.6%, I: -5.5%, UK: -4.9%, E: -2.3%

  7. Cinema-going in Western Europe in 2003 SCREENS • in 2003 screen numbers continued to rise (+2.2%): • from 26,600 to approximately 27,100 • remaining basically stable in Germany and increasing in Italy (+6.4%), Spain (+5.0%) and the United Kingdom (+0.9%).

Cinema-going in Central-Eastern Europe and the Mediterranean Rim in 2003 • 2003 recorded a total drop in admissions: • from 102 million in 2002 to 98 million in 2003 • but with widely differing situations when considering individual countries: • BG: +50.9%, CY: +21.0%, CZ: +13.5% • CS: -28.4%, LT: -27.1%, EE: -18.2%

  9. Cinema-going in ITALY in 2003 • Admissions* experience a drop, from 103.7 million in 2002 to 98.0 million in 2003, with an annual pro-capita frequency of 1.82 in 2002 and 1.71 in 2003 (*SIAE figures relating to screens operating for at least 60 days a year)

  10. Cinema-going in ITALY in 2003 • Screen numbers* record an increase • from 3,353 in 2002 to 3,566 in 2003 • screens in multiplexes represent 18.7% of the total and account for 32.2% of all the Country’s admissions (*SIAE figures regarding screens operating for at least 60 days a year)

  12. Average ticket price on the 4 leading markets of the euro currency zone (variation of real values) In 2003 the average ticket price, net of inflation, falls considerably in Italy and Germany, whilst increasing slightly in France and Spain

  15. Multiplexes in Europe(as at 1st January 2004) 9,687screens in 899complexes in 30 countries In general, screens in multiplexes are on the increase, but growing more slowly: +19% between 1st January 2001 and 1st January 2002 +8% between 1st January 2003 and 1st January 2004

Digital cinema worldwide (as at June 2004) 245digital screens in 204complexes The number of digital screens worldwide is increasing (+35.4% compared to December 2003) but with different percentages according to the markets under consideration: in Asia, +80.3% in Europe, +23.3% in Latin America, +10.0% in North America, +6.3% between December 2003 and June 2004 (cinemas equipped with DLP CinemaTM technology)
