Adaptability of traditional anonymity solutions to sensor networks Ruben Rios ARES Meeting 2011 ruben@lcc.uma.es
Agenda • Context-aware location privacy • Adaptability of privacy solutions
Context-Aware Location Privacy • Benefit from sensors’ context-awareness to anticipate the adversary movements • Minimize the number of captured packets • Minimize the energy consumption • Permissivesafety distance • Strict safety distance 1/4 Exploiting Context-Awareness to Enhance Source-Location Privacy in Wireless Sensor Networks, The Computer Journal, Oxford Journals
Context-Awareness Results • Privacy protection • Energy consumption PERMISSIVE STRICT 2/4
Adaptability of anonymity solutions • There are many solutions for anonymous communication, then why develop new ones for sensor scenarios? • Traditional answer is they are too resource consuming • But do they actually fit the privacy requirements in sensor networks? • Most traditional solutions aim to provide sender-receiver unlinkability (who communicates with whom) • Sensor networks aim to hide the communicating parties (source and receiver locations) • However, with few modifications some solutions might be adapted 3/4
Adaptability requirements • We proceed in two phases: • Analyze solutions to determine adaptability • Study memory, computation and energy requirements 4/4
