  1. ”Promise to the Future” Launch of Japan’s Development Policy at the UN MDGs Summit 1.PM Kan:High-level Plenary Meeting (Sep. 22): Launch the “Kan Commitment” in accordance with the concept of a “society with minimum level of misery” where each individual can find out his way of life and take on a challenge for his dream; Launch the new development policies in the field of health as well as education with a five-year financial commitment 2.FM Maehara:Round Table 5 (Sep. 22):Promote the human security approach and launch the basic education assistance model “School for All” in responding to the most vulnerable, the last challenge of the achievement of the MDGs 3.FM Maehara:Side-Event “Achieving the MDGs through Partnership – Sharing the experience and challenges of Asia –” (Sep. 21):Share the experience of economic growth in Asia; Focus on the need to address enlarging social gap in compensation for growth 4.FM Maehara:The High-level Side-Event ”Innovative Finance for the MDGs”(Sep. 21):Announce Japan’s intention to stimulate the international discussion. Introduce Japan’s effort and encourage countries to actively participate in the discussion Japan’s new health development policyfocuses on: 1. MNCH, 2. Infectious Diseases, 3. Response to International Threats Japan will provide 5 billion USD in five years from 2011. Japan’s new education cooperation policyfocuses on: 1. Basic Education, 2. Post Basic Education, 3. Support for Fragile Countries Japan will provide 3.5 billion USD in five years from 2011. Policy Package Model “EMBRACE” -Ensure the continuum of care from pre-pregnancy to childhood- Policy Package Model “School for All” -comprehensive improvement of learning environment- Provide quality educational environment. Respond to the marginalized children and fragile countries where the assistance is hard to reach. Give due consideration to continuation of learning for primary school graduates. Particularly strengthen support to ensure the continuum of care, in order to save lives of 11.3 million under-five children and 680,000 pregnant women.
