Our Process • We’re going to watch two classroom videos • We’re going to pause after a particular vignette and ask you to: • Spend a few of minutes individually thinking about what you would say to the student speaking and/or another student to • push their thinking • probe for understanding • Go around your table collecting input • Don’t being your discussion until everyone contributes • Discuss your thoughts about commonalities & differences Don’t worry… we’ll repeat this slide after each vignette

  4. Vignettes One & Two Comes from Jo Boaler’s book Connecting mathematical ideas which has two CDs of classroom videos in the back Our video is entitled “Convincing Others” and will show two students with two different approaches to explaining why 2(n-1) = 2n-2

Between Today & Your Departure Determine one or two achievable goals for next school year • Visit Silver King 1 – walk up to the tripod with the camera • Follow the instructions to tape (2 minute maximum) your shout-out • This will be clipped & edited & put on your Ning space – your choice whether to make it public • If you want to start again… just say “I’m starting again” and we’ll take your last & best copy
