Ch. 1 Review • Who is Prim? • Where does Katnisslive? • Why does Katniss have to go under the fence to hunt? (Why are they fenced in? Why isn’t hunting allowed?) • Who is Gale? • Why is Gale rude to Madge? • How is the reaping unfair to the lower-class citizens? • What happens if you do not show up for the reaping? • Approximately how many people live in District 12? • What was the Treaty of Treason? • Describe the Hunger Games in three sentences. • Whose name is chosen first for District 12?
The Class Reaping 1. For your family, figure out how many times your name would be entered into the reaping. Explain your answer (your age and number of family members). 2. Using scraps of paper, write your name on each scrap. Turn in the scraps.
Predictions How many total slips are in the container? Whose name is entered the most times? What are the odds that person’s name will be called?
Were you surprised at the results? Why or why not? Were the results of your reaping more predictable than District 12’s? (Did they go along with the odds, for the most part?) Do you think Prim’s name was drawn intentionally? Why or why not? What about Peeta’s name? How many slips of paper had his name written on them, do you think? What motivation would someone have to “rig” a drawing? Why Peeta? Why Prim?
The Setting District 12 is located in the Appalachian mountains. The population is about 8,000 people. Where do you think District 12 is located within this region?
