  1. Faculty of Engineering Inter-Faculty and Intra-Faculty Transfer Information Session

  2. INTERNAL TRANSFER Changing Your Major Changing Majors withinthe Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering or within the Department of Mining and Materials Engineering are to be completed at the respective department. These changes are not regarded as a faculty transfer.

  3. Types of Transfers • Students who are currently registered in one Faculty and wish to transfer to another faculty would apply for an Inter-Faculty Transfer. • Students who are currently registered in the Faculty of Engineering and wish to transfer to another department would apply for an Intra-Faculty Transfer. • Students who have graduated from their undergraduate program, or have applied to graduate at the end of the current term, should make their application to a new undergraduate program through the University admissions process.

  4. Am I eligible? A minimum CGPA does not guarantee admission due to enrollment restrictions and competiveness of program. • Students who have at least 27 graded credits of course work at the end of the Fall and Winter term (or at least 15 at the end of the Winter admitted term or if on internship/coop, the previous term) will be considered. • Limited enrolment programs select students with the highest overall averages and/or highest averages in prerequisites, and preference will be given to students who have completed all Year 0 science courses. • The admission decision takes into account the applicant’s whole academic record. All marks may be taken into consideration including previous institutional grades.

  5. How do I apply for a transfer? • Students must sign-in to MINERVA and select: • Student Records Menu • Faculty Transfer and Readmission Menu • Additional information in support of the application must be detailed in the: • Comments section (This field should also be used to communicate any other relevant information.) • Students submitting more than one application should indicate which one is their first choice and which is their second choice in the Comments field. • Only two programs (e.g. Electrical, Chemical, Biology) are permitted on each application. • Majors (Programs) Available: • Fall Term: Chemical, Civil, Electrical/Computer/Software, Mechanical, Mining/Materials & Architecture • Winter Term: Applications are not currently available for this term

  6. What are the deadlines? • The deadlines to apply for a transfer are: • May 1 for the Fall term • November 1 for the Winter term (when available) • Only completed applications will be reviewed. Therefore all documents must be submitted by the deadline. • Due to the competiveness of the programs no extensions will be granted.

  7. When will I receive a response? Typically, decisions will be entered during the months of June and July. Students are expected to frequently monitor their application status as they have three weeks to respond to an offer. When an offer is accepted, all other applications will be cancelled. To keep other applications active, students must contact their home faculty to request this be done.

  8. Where can I find more information concerning the various majors within the Faculty of Engineering? Please visit the Faculty of Engineering website: http://www.mcgill.ca/engineering/students/future-students/undergraduate-programs The program flyer will provide career information and the university ecalendar: www.mcgill.ca/study/faculties/engineering/undergraduate/ug_eng_acad_programs (select academic programs on the left sided menu) Minor programs are also available here

  9. How will my Courses Transfer? Intrafaculty applicants: All courses continue to be included in the degree cgpa calculation. Interfaculty applicants: Only courses that meet the degree requirements are included in the new degree cgpa; all other courses are excluded.
