  2. The Change in Thessalonians • From idol worshipers to servants of God • In spite of severe opposition (Acts 17) • What brought about this change?

  3. The Change in Thessalonians • They Received the Word • In much affliction – v. 6; Acts 17:1-9 • Word will bring results – receive or reject • As the Word of God – 2:13 • If we reverence God we respect His Word • In order to be born again – 1 Peter 1:23

  4. The Change in Thessalonians • They Turned From Idols • If converted will turn away from old man • May be false religion • May be family • May be immoral behavior • May be a relationship • Cannot serve the Lord & not turn from the old man

  5. The Change in Thessalonians • They Turned To God • To serve Him – v. 9 • To worship Him – 5:17 • To abound in His work – 1 Cor. 15:58 • To wait for His Son – v. 10 • Will come as a thief in the night – 5:2 • Waiting while busy serving

  6. The Change in Thessalonians • They Sounded out the Word • Cannot be content with receiving word we must pass it on – 2 Timothy 2:2

  7. Lessons Learned • May have affliction in receiving Word • Can’t turn to God without turning from something • Can’t turn to God and not serve Him • Can’t turn to God and not sound out the Word

  8. What Must I Do To Be Saved? • Hear the gospel (Romans 10:17) • Believe Jesus is Christ (Acts 8:37) • Repent of your sins (Acts 17:30) • Confess your faith (Matthew 10:32) • Baptized for remission of sins (Acts 2:38) • Faithful unto death (Revelation 2:10)
