  1. During year 2 of the Catalyst Initiative: • The Catalyst Web site logged almost 1.7 million page views, an increase of more than 300%. • Educators registered as Catalyst Toolkit owners at a rate of 3.3 per day, up from 1.8 the previous year. • Almost 16,000 unique students used Catalyst Tools for learning during January 2001, surpassing the prior year’s high by 9,000 students.

  2. And more . . . • Catalyst workshop attendance climbed 35% to 948. • Catalyst outreach efforts reached over 900 campus educators and staff. • Drop-in visits to the CTLT remained high at 1700. • The Catalyst Initiative reached 91% of academic departments.

New content on Catalyst 3.0: • New “learning” pages with online workshop materials. • New “profiles” highlight educators who use technology to enhance learning in large lecture classes. • The “Home Page” now allows one-click access to our most popular resources. • We’ve expanded support for Catalyst Web Tools to include best practices.

  6. Web site statistics: • 1.7 million page views, up 300% from the previous year. • 40.5% of Website usage takes place from 5 pm-9am when the CTLT is closed.

  10. “Teaching with Technology” Workshops

  11. New workshops in 2000: • Catalyst Toolkit • Basic Graphics for the Web • Using Microsoft PowerPoint • WebQ for Research • Creating Distance Learning Courses • Catalyst Tools in Action Webcast • Multimedia Streaming Video Clinic

  12. Workshop attendance: • 948 instructors attended workshops. • Attendance has been rising steadily from 8.2 instructors per class in Spring 2000 to of 20.4 per class in Winter 2001.

  13. One-to-One Consulting

  14. One-to-one help in the CTLT: • We helped over 1,700 instructors in 2000. • We expanded our facilities to include digital video production.

  15. Plans for the Future

  16. “Partnered” content: • PETTT: Publish studies of unique learning environments on Catalyst. • Digital Libraries Initiative:Deliver CONTENT software through Catalyst. • Educational Outreach:Build out guides for creating distance learning classes.

  17. New content: Improved “Teaching” Section • The new Teaching pages will provide specific help for a variety of learning environments, from large lectures to distance learning classes. Support for multimedia content • How To guides will take you through every step in creating streaming media.

  18. New Web Tools

  19. MyClass integration: • We are working to integrate Catalyst Tools into the “MyClass” project. • Instructors will be able to create tools, get class lists, and create Web pages from one simple interface.

  20. SimpleSite: • This tool allows instructors to create course Web sites without Web editing software or FTP programs. • Only a Web browser is needed.

  21. This tool creates an online collaborative learning environment where students work on problem-based projects. VirtualCase:

  22. Dynamic images: Soon, many of our tools will allow instructors to create images that can be directly manipulated on the Web. • Students can even • “draw” answers on • the Web.

  23. On the horizon: • Synchronous chat and community-building tools. • WebQ v3.0 with more interactivity and feedback. • Online data collection and manipulation tools.

  24. Speed boost: • As of March 5th, 2001 our tools are running on a new server that makes them significantly faster than they were before. • We are also working on some software changes that will increase the speed even further.
