  4. Background Time line Why? • Voluntarily follow their male relatives to war • Were kidnapped and forced to be of service to other soldiers. • 1519, Hernan Cortes enslaved 20 women • 1910, most Mexican armies included soldaderas • 1925, banned the recruiting of soldaderas

  5. Petra herrera • Was a corn grinder • Camouflaged as a male soldier during the Mexican Revolution (1910~1920) • Gained victories in numerous battles • Made her own army consisting of 1,000 female soldiers • Contributed largely and was a big influence to other soldaderas
