  1. Control Files Werner Gurtner Astronomical Institute University of Bern ILRS Workshop 3-7 October 2005 Eastbourne

  2. Control files/mails used by ILRS • Manoeuvre predictions: Special header • Standard time bias files • Drag function files • Time bias server • EUROLAS status exchange • Go-Nogo file • Dynamic priorities • URGENT mail

  3. Manoeuvre predictions • Special mail subject • Special header • Manoeuvre epoch triggers replacement of prediction elements Subj: ERS-2 man preds 05/09/23,03:09 ... MANOEUVRE ... The following state vectors are valid after the 1 manoeuvre(s) which will be executed as 1 burns, as follows: yyyy mm dd HH MM SS.S Start 2005 09 23 03 09 11.0 End 2005 09 23 03 09 13.0

  4. Standard time bias files • Special mail subject • Distributed daily • Time bias functions for all IRV sets currently in use Subj: Standard Time Bias Functions RGO ERS2 6178 GFZ605 GFZ 2005 09 29 53640 -0.1 0.29 -0.776 0.000 Ajisai 1500 HON270 RGO 2005 09 29 53641 -1.2 -0.46 0.000 0.000 Ajisai 1500 HON271 RGO 2005 09 29 53641 -1.2 -0.38 0.000 0.000 Ajisai 1500 JAX260 RGO 2005 09 29 53641 0.0 0.00 0.000 0.000 Ajisai 1500 NER271 RGO 2005 09 29 53641 0.0 0.00 0.000 0.000 BeaconC 317 HON270 RGO 2005 09 29 53641 -0.3 3.04 0.000 0.000 BeaconC 317 HON271 RGO 2005 09 29 53641 -0.6 -1.31 0.000 0.000

  5. Drag function files • Distributed for some satellites (Champ, Grace A,B) • Used to compute additional time bias Subj: CHAMP FR drag function IRV SET 050930.2 EPHEM NO 5016 SATELLITE 8002 MAXEPOCH EPOCH 2098.5 DRAG FRCO 0.0 49.7 1.8 NMAX 20 EPOCH 2099.5 DRAG FRCO 0.0 59.7 1.8 NMAX 20

  6. Time bias server • Downloads hourly updates of the time biasfunction file from NSGF • Computes on request current time biases • Accessed • by TCP/IP: telnet://aiuas3.unibe.ch:7840 • web page : http://aiuas3.unibe.ch/cgi-bin/cgi-time_bias • Hosted by Zimmerwald ! Time biases at 30-Sep-2005 14:13 UT ! ! Satellite Total IRVset LstObs Passes SIC Drag Dyn ! TB[ms] [hhh:mm] used [ms] Prio ! 7. EUROLAS status exchange • Exchange of status and current time bias • Every 15 seconds • Server hosted by Zimmerwald -----------------------------------------------------------------------Graz 2002-08-13 14:17:32 Glonass87 LST 0 HON224 0.000 Potsdam 2002-08-13 14:18:01 OUT Zimmerwald 2002-08-13 14:18:48 Glonass87 CUR 0 COD791 0.000 Wettzell 2002-08-13 14:18:41 OUT (Tracking Idle) Grasse_slr 2002-08-13 14:06:10 Lageos2 LST 653 NER022 0.002 Herstmonceux 2002-08-13 14:18:26 OUT Ajaccio_ftlr 2002-08-13 13:59:00 OUT -----------------------------------------------------------------------

  8. Go-Nogo Flag • File kept at CSR/UTX ftp://ftp.csr.utexas.edu/pub/icesat/slr/icesat.gng • Automatically downloaded per ftp immediately before each pass • Contains flag • go : allowed to track • nogo : not allowed to track • Example: check interval icesat 0300201 8201 5 go

  9. Dynamic priorities • In- or decrease priority for a small number of satellites • Code inserted into time bias server output • Available as web pagehttp://aiuas3.unibe.ch/ftp/slr/dynamic_priorities.html

  10. URGENT Mail • Short (and understandable) mails to operators • To be used for (unexpected) events important for proper operation • E.g. • Satellites in non-standard mode (like, e.g., safe mode) • Urgent increase of tracking priorities • Manoeuvres • Problems with predictions Subj: URGENT MAIL: Envisat Orbit Manoeuvre Announcement To all concerned, an Envisat maintenance manoeuvre will be performed in the next 24 hours. The TIRV file taking this into account will be sent imminently. With kind regards, ESOC Envisat Flight Dynamics Operations Team

  11. Who is using what? • Are these files actually used? • By whom? • Are they useful? • Is it too much? • Same questions could be asked regarding the various data and analysis reports
