Gordon Cooper Technology Center • Established in 1969 • Named after the NASA Astronaut • Leroy Gordon Cooper Jr • Started with 10 programs • Currently offering 24 programs • We currently have 975 Full-time students • 70 % High School 30% Adults • Serving 22 High Schools, 7 Dependent Schools and 3 Private Schools, in 11counties

  3. What is GCTC doing to unite teachers, students, & parents in career development? • 5th. & 6th. Grade Engineer Fair/ Rocket Program • 7th & 8th. Grade Engineering Experience • We have 8th. grade career Fair • 9th. Grade Career Assessment at their schools • Cluster Letters, Flyers, & Updates (Teachers) • 10th. Grade Shadowing of Programs • 2 Student Interviews • Teacher Tech Academy • Enrollment Night • TCTW • Parents on Advisory Committees New for 2009-10 • Teachers As Mentors • GCTC Student Ambassadors

What have been our frustrations? • Not building relationships with all parents. • Not getting students in low enrollment programs. • Making some schools upset because they didn’t get as many students in GCTC. • Some Teachers not working as hard in building relationships. • Size of our District • Turn over of Administration and Counselors.

  5. Our Successes? • Lower Drop Out • Improved Attendance • Students not switching Career Majors • Parents taking an active roll in their child’s plan of study. • Higher performing students. • Satisfied Employers
