  5. Daily Life • Rome laid out in a square • Main roads intersected at right angles • Center is Forum • Marketplace and public square • Rich have beautiful homes, villas in countryside

  6. Daily Life (con’t) • Peasants-one room apartments—made of wood—expensive and caught fire often • Dirty—people tossed garbage in the streets • Robbers out at night
