  1. What is persuasion?

  2. Persuasion: • Using reason to convince someone to believe in what you are telling them, or make them do something that you want

  3. What makes up a good argument? • It’s simple – just REVVyour engines! • R: Reasons (what makes your argument good?) • E: Evidence (show us your reasons are good) • VV: Vivid Vocabulary (use words that grab your reader’s attention)

  4. “Which vegetable should be added to the school cafeteria?” • This writing is going to be like an election paper – you have to persuade your readers to vote for your vegetable • You should do some fact-hunting to support your argument (which veggie you think rocks!)

  5. Pre-Write High vitamin C; (immune system) Low in fat and cholesterol Low in sodium (heart healthy) Steamed with a bit of lemon zest Sautéed with garlic and onions

  6. Paragraph 1: • Hi! I’m ____________ (Brenda the Brussels Sprout). You should vote for me to be included on the lunch menu at MES because I am chock-full of vitamins and minerals. Plus, I can be cooked in many easy, tasty ways. • Greeting + Two main reasons to vote for this fruit/veggie

  7. Paragraph 2: • Eating healthy is very important, and I can help keep your body fit. (Topic Sentence) • First off, I have a lot of Vitamin C, which helps you fight off disease. • In addition, I am low in sodium, cholesterol, and fat. This means I am a heart-healthy food. • Finally, I also am a good source of dietary fiber, which is another nutrient that keeps your heart healthy.

  8. Paragraph 3: • Not only am I good for you – but I taste good, too! (Topic Sentence) • One good way to serve me is as a part of a veggie kabob. Start with mushrooms and red peppers, and a low fat Italian dressing marinade. Then grill us to perfection – yum! • Another good way to eat me is to simply bake me in the oven after putting a bit of olive oil for extra flavor.

  9. Paragraph 4: • In conclusion, you should vote Brenda the Brussels Sprout. Who’s low in fat, cholesterol, and sodium? I am! Who has vitamin C and fiber? I do! And who can be prepared in tasty ways that everyone can enjoy? Me! Vote Brenda the Brussels Sprout!!!
