Target Success Beyond Admission • Admission based on GPA, only a foot in the door • Accounting GPA requirement = 3.0 • All other concentrations = 2.6 • Former Students Returning potentially can be admitted at 2.0 • Success @ SJSU depends on the skills and knowledge gained in the classes taken to meet this GPA threshold • Poor planning and preparation has been seen to quickly lead to poor performance and poor academic standing or even DQ

  3. Prep for Success: Transfers • Take as many lower division requirements as possible • Math 71 (or Math 70 if student started at CCC before 2010) • English 1B • Bus 20 Financial Accounting • Bus 90 Statistics • Econ 1A Macro/1B Micro • Bus 21 Managerial Accounting • Bus 80 Business Law • Bus 91L Business Computer Productivity Tools • Take the WST right after completing English 1B • Consider AS-Ts in BSBAs with concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Finance, General Business, Human Resource Management, or Management • Roadmaps and more info at http://www.sjsu.edu/ugs/SB1440/sb1440roadmaps/2014-2015Roadmaps/index.html

Admission Requirements • Oral Comm, Engl 1A, Math, Critical Thinking are required for admission to Business • Generally, only 70 units will count towards the degree content requirements • Admission is based on all_college_GPA & 4 basic skills, not on prep courses • Success is based on prep courses

Prep for Success: Frosh • Work with your counselor to identify your strengths, weaknesses, interests, and aptitudes • Realize that College is not HS, and you will be challenged for the better • See the BSBA as an investment • Make the most of Frosh Orientation and the summer between HS and College • Participate in FYE activities – Launch Day, Bus 10 & 12, Student Success Center Programs • Be strategic – don’t bite more than you can chew, build up your GPA capital • classes get harder as you move forward • High GPA opens doors to premium experiences – Sbona honors program, study abroad, internships, Thompson Global Internship Program

Success @ SJSU • Engage with SJSU early • Visit the university and participate in activities • Contact the Jack Holland Student Success Center (JHSSC) even before admission or applying for admission • Engage with faculty and counselors • Network with students (and industry) via classes & clubs • Take responsibility for your success • Have a plan – work with a JHSSC advisor early on • Manage your time • Ask for help – start at JHSSC, http://www.sjsu.edu/lcobssc/and the advising hub, http://www.sjsu.edu/advising/ • Focus on excellence • C is a minimum target • Opportunities abound for those who aim for more
