  1. Discovery Table In the discovery table for week 13 there were materials for the children to manipulate including different keys and locks. The children were able to explore what key fit into what lock, as Noah is doing in the picture above. There were also wooden pieces in the discovery table in the shape of door knobs. Lastly, there were wooden pieces in the discovery table to represent the doors in the preschool being made of wood. Movement of Doors Week 13 By Miss Johnson Small Group The children were able to go on field trip to the library on Ball State University's campus. The Children observed different types of doors in the library including handicap and elevator doors. The children drew pictures of their own doors and shared stories about what their door leads to. The children also focused on physics for small group and made hypotheses about different sized play Balls. Dramatic Play The dramatic play area was transformed into a bedroom for week 13. There was a door made for the children to pull open to get into the bedroom and to push open to get out of the bedroom. There was also a closet made for the children to choose dress up clothing from. The children enjoyed playing house in this area. Art The children created many art projects for week 13. The children decorated their own door hanger to take home and many for around the center. The children were also able to manipulate salt dough into door knobs and paint their door knob with water colors. Another activity the children made were sun catchers! The children arranged beads and melted the beads to create these. Circle Time Gross Motor The children were able to listen to many books at circle time this week. Books about doors were shared and a few books on diversity. The children sat still and listened to the books and then were able to ask any questions they had. We also sang “Shake Your Sillies Out” a very interactive song for the children , shared knock knock jokes, and shared Mr. Wiggle and Mr. Waggle with the children. The children were able to use the parachute to work on gross motor skills and practice large arm movements along with going in and out of the parachute.
