  2. Root Word • A root word is a word that has a prefix, suffix, or both added to it. • A root word is a word that stands all by itself, alone. • If you find the root word, can that help you figure out the meaning of word?

  3. NEW WORDS • New words can be made when a prefix or suffix is added on. Will adding these change the meaning of the word? • What prefixes and suffixes are the most common? Let’s make a list! • What new words can we make with the word “use?” Write them down.

  4. COMPARE Prefix Suffix The “suf” part means “after” and the “fix” part still means “attach.” When you add a suffix at the end, you’ll see how the meanings match!! Let’s explore some words!!! • The “pre” part means “before,” and the “fix” part mean “attach.” • When you add a prefix to a word, you will get a whole new word!! • Prefix + Root = New word!!
