Marijuana is the most used illegal drug. • What is Marijuana made from? • The dried leaves from the Cannabis Sativa. • Is Marijuana a sedative or a hallucinogen? • It is both! • Which class type is Marijuana? • B.

  3. How is it taken? • How many ways can Marijuana be smoked? • - Joints - Spliffs - Blunts - Bongs - Pipes • Other ways that it can be taken? • Some people mix in their food - Brownies • Brewed as tea

  4. SHORT TERM effects • Varies from person to person. Most people may feel relaxed and happy, while others may feel sick. • People usually get very hungry. • Difficulty in problem solving and thinking • Memory problems • Loss of co-ordination • Distorted perception

LONG TERM EFFECTS • Regular use of cannabis can later lead to developing mental illness including schizophrenia. • Fertility implications • - Women may have disruption in her menstrual cycle • - Men may produce less sperm • Respiratory problems • - Chronic cough • - More mucus • - Bronchitis • Changes in blood pressure • Emotional problems

  6. MEDICAL USES • Cannabis is used to relieve nausea in cancer patients • As well as help people with AIDS to regain their appetite • Though, the use of medical marijuana is still debated about.

  7. MARIJUANA On the rise • University of Michigan conducted a survey of 47,000 8th, 10th and 11th graders. • Smoking and drinking have gone down. • Number of people who smoke marijuana has risen dramatically • 1/3 of 12th graders have said they smoked marijuana in the last year!

  8. Why do people smoke marijuana? • People don’t think it’s dangerous as it’s used for medical purposes. • You can’t overdose. • Peer pressure • They think it’s cool. • Get “high”

FUN FACTS • How much does Marijuana cost? • Marijuana costs around $80/an ounce • How many types of chemical compounds is marijuana made up of? • It contains over 400 chemical compounds • True or False, each day 1000 people try marijuana for the first time in the United States? • False. Each day over 6000 people try it for the first time.
