  3. Introduction • Alison Assigner, Deputy Library Manager at the Steppings Library delegates work to three assistant librarians. • The assistant librarians also deputise in her absence and attend meetings on her behalf. • In addition Alison monitors their work.

  4. Delegation Process • Alison often sends long confusing emails to each of the assistant librarians with tasks. • Any new jobs that come in are assigned to whoever is around. • Alison is often offsite and unable to answer the assistant librarians’ questions.

  5. Monitoring Process • Every six months Alison gives each of the assistant librarians feedback on their performance. • Each assistant librarian has a yearly meeting with Alison to discuss their performance, future objectives and any concerns.
