An Ever Repeating Cycle • For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. 2 Tim 4:3-4

  3. An Isolated Problem? • "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' 23 And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' Matt 7:21-23

  4. A Love for the Truth • and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2Th. 2:10-12

  5. Everyone Has a Love for the Truth! Some of the Time

  9. Love for the truth: Material Creation • Can’t unlock any secret until you know the truth. • Chemistry; physics; anatomy; electricity; oil cannot be used unless we know the truth about them. • Success for finding the truth • Consequencesof violating truth • Immediate • Often spectacular or catastrophic!

  13. Do we Study the Bible Like • getting change for a $20. • balancing our checking account. • a police officer is following us. • the doctor is assessing us. • taking prescription medication • cooking, sewing, cutting material. • a foul is called against our team.

  15. God is Watching • It is obvious to him when we are more interested in our own benefits from truth. • He tests us to find out. • I Cor 1:26-29 • The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his deeds Jer 17:9-10

Lev 10:1-3 • Moses barred from promised land for striking rock and failing to honor God. Num 20:1-12 • Uzzah struck dead for failure to observe minor ordinance 100’s of years old. I Chr 15:2,13 • Jeroboam destroyed for changing the worship of God’s people. IKgs 12:25-33; 14:7-11 • Truth matters just as much in our service to God as it does in our occupation.

Linusretorts, “All right, so you believe in Santa Claus, and I’ll believe in the Great Pumpkin. The way I see it, it doesn’t matter what you believe just so you’re sincere.”
