  2. Day 1Monday February 26, 2018 Objective: I can evaluate a function with a given value. S.L.O.T g=6x , solve for x U= x-k , solve for x

  4. Evaluate p+2q+ 3r given p = 2 q = 4, r = 6 =2+ 2(4) + 3(6) =2 + 8 + 18 =28

  5. Example : Evaluate 3c + 5 if c = 5 and d = 1 4d Solution : 3c + 5 = 3 (5) + 5 4 d 4 (1) = 15 + 5 4 = 20 4 = 5

  6. Function Notation 25 Which do you prefer to write? Evaluate f when x = 25? OR 5 The f is the name of the function machine and the value inside the parentheses is the input. The expression to the right of the equal sign shows what the machine does to the input.

  7. Example If f(x) = 2x + 3, find f(5). When evaluating, do not write f(x)! You want x=5 since f(x) was changed to f(5) You wanted to find f(5). So the complete final answer includes f(5) not f(x)

  8. Solving g(x)=2x-1 g(0) g(-1) g(2)

  9. Evaluating Substitute and Evaluate The input (or x) is 3.
