  1. Famous cities of Papua New Guinea Papua New Guinea, in the southwestern Pacific, encompasses the eastern half of New Guinea and its offshore islands. A country of immense cultural and biological diversity, it’s known for its beaches and coral reefs. The country comprises about 600 small islands and has some 5,150 km of coastline; only 13 per cent of people live in urban areas, the lowest proportion in the Commonwealth. Papua New Guinea has more than 800 indigenous languages, thought to be more than any other country in the world. The country comprises 22 provinces including the National Capital District (greater Port Moresby) and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. Port Moresby is the main point of entry into Papua New Guinea for air-traffic and most of the boat-traffic. The city is on the shores of the Gulf of Papua. Its population is around 300,000 and growing quickly. The indigenous people of the area are the Motu-Koitabu. 3. Mt Hagen Mount Hagen is a city in the Western Highlands province of Papua New Guinea. Hagen was a fascinating and largely peaceful place to visit. . It is the capital of the Western Highlands Province and is located in the large fertile Wahgi Valley in central mainland Papua New Guinea. Mount Hagen is the third largest city in Papua New Guinea, with a population of 46,250. The capital city, Mt Hagen, is a bustling commercial centre where wealth from coffee and tea.
