  3. The various airline & train luggage policies differ, and they change frequently. Enforcement of bag policies by each desk agent is inconsistent. Much of what I know I’ve learned the hard way.  - Disclaimer -

  4. Consider – What you “REALLY” “NEED” to take!

  5. Mr. BIG’s #1 Travel Rule YOU must be able to get from your car to the motor coach, with all of your bags in ONE trip. If YOU can’t do that, YOU have TOO MUCH STUFF!

  6. Oversize Bag Penalties > 50 lbs. = $90 > 62 linear inches = $175 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > 50 lbs. = $100 > 62 linear inches = $100 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  7. “Checked” Bag Fees $25 1st bag - $35 2nd bag - $125 3rd bag -----------------------------------------------$25 1st bag - $35 2nd bag - $100 3rd bag -----------------------------------------------

  8. What About Skis & Boards? Both& count the combination of 1 Ski or Board bag AND 1 Boot bag to count as just ONE “checked bag”. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Specifically allows 2 sets of skis in the ski bag, BUT the boot bag may NOT contain ANY items other than boots!

  9. Preferred Status Benefits • United Airlines - Mileage Plus Card Members - You & 1 friend get 1st checked bag free. • Delta - American Express Sky miles Card - You & 8 friends get 1st checked bag free. • Delta - Diamond, Gold, and Silver Medallion - Varies but often multiple free checked bags.

  10. FREE - Carry On Bag 45 Linear Inches & 22” x 14” x 9” max. ---------------------------------------------------- + Personal Bag (backpack, purse, etc…) 17” x 10” x 9” maximum

  11. Warning! Groups with large amounts of luggage, may not have all of their bags & equipment loaded on the aircraft, due to weight limits. Those bags can be lost or delayed for days!

Park City Ski Trip • MSP to SLC >> Airbus A320 = 168 seats (3-3) • SLC to MSP >> Airbus A320 = 168 seats (3-3) Telluride Ski Trip Regional Carrier Jets • MSP to DEN >> Embraer RJ145 = 68 seats (2-1) • DEN to GJT >> Canadair 200 = 54 seats (2-2) • GJT to DEN >> Bombardier Q400 = 71 seats (2-2) • DEN to MSP >> Canadair 700 = 66 seats (2-2)

  13. WHAT CAN YOU LEAST AFFORD TO LIVE WITHOUT? • Items that must remain in your possession AT ALL TIMES!

  19. My Carry-On Strategy • Cash, credit cards, photo ID, and cell phone are in my pockets. • I wear the fleece liner of my ski parka on the plane. • Boots, gloves, pants, goggles, parka, and meds, are in “carry-on” • Helmet is in my back pack.

  22. Security & T.S.A. Reminders • Name Tags BOTH outside & inside all bags. • Carry-On gels & liquids are limited to 3 oz. and must be placed in a clear quart size bag. • Shoes, coats, caps, all have to be removed and scanned. (some exceptions) • Body Scanners require emptying all pockets.
