What does it mean to be an American? What is the American Dream and how do we balance success and happiness? What is the role of the author?

  5. Class Policies: See syllabus for details Meeting deadlines is essential—No Late hwk will be accepted (unless ex absence)! Major assignments however (15pts or more) can be turned in late with a penalty of a letter grade per day Long term assignments must be submitted on their due date even if you are unable to attend class unless other arrangements have been made. If an assignment can’t be done, you must be responsible and notify me before the due date or the assignment will be late. Academic Integrity is an absolute must

  6. What you need to know today: • Classroom basics • You have hwk due next class • You need to become best friends with my website: http://teacherweb.com/CA/SaratogaHighSchool/Ritchie/

  7. Agree or Disagree? Let’s discuss(majority of the time) • Reputation can ruin a person. • Jealousy will cause problems if it is not dealt with. • People often think with their hearts instead of their heads. • It is easy to be an independent person and think for oneself. • Second-hand information is accurate if heard from someone you trust. • Taking advantage of others is acceptable if they don’t know about it.

  8. “O, beware, my lord, of jealousy/ It is the green-eyed monster” • Have you heard this quote or idea before? • What does it mean? • What other ideas come to mind in that relate to this quote?
