Immortal, Invisible St. Denio (Welsh Melody) • Immortal, invisible, God only wise,In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,Almighty, victorious, Thy great Name we praise. • Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might.Thy justice like mountains high soaring above,Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love. • Thou reignest in glory, thou rulest in light,Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight; All praise we would render: O help us to see‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee. Old Testament ReadingJoshua 1:6-9 (KJV) Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest.

New Testament ReadingMatthew 10:25-31 (KJV) It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known. What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? And one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows. Song Sparrow
How to Live As ChristiansWithout Fear • Many Scriptures in the Bible talk about fear • Angels often appear and say “fear not” to people throughout the Bible • We are commanded not to fear • How do you handle fear of various types?

What is the result of fear? • Fear produces stress • Fear breeds more fear • Fear paralyzes us • Fear causes a “fight or flight” reaction • Reactions to fears can be even worse that than fear • “We have nothing to fear but fear itself.” Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s first inaugural address, 1933
What Is the meaning of “fear” and “afraid” in the Bible • Hebrew – “yare” pronounced “yah-ray” To fear, be afraid; translated fear and afraid in the Old Testament, but also means to reverence, feel awe for, honour and respect, such as for God • Greek – “phobeo” pronounced “foh-beh-oh”To put to flight, to flee, to fear, to be afraid, to be seized with alarm or struck with amazement, but also means to reverence, venerate, to treat with deference or reverential obedience • In both languages, the words afraid and fear reference the same Hebrew and/or Greek word
