  2. Diction • The dictions used is figurative and monosyllabic. The monosyllabic dictions provides a simple flow throughout this poem. Figurative is used in lines such as “I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.” The person does not fully want to wake.

  3. Imagery • Assonance is found throughout this poem. “Of those so close beside me, which are you?” This provide emphasis of lines which draws the readers attention.

  4. Details • The detail “I wake to sleep, but take my waking slow.” This detail illustrates the speakers sense of depression. The speakers doesn’t want to wake.

  5. Language • The language used in this poem is obscure and figurative. The statement, “Light takes the Tree; but who can tell us how?” is not very clear. The language is figurative with statements such as “The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;”.

  6. Sentence Structure • The poem ends with the first two lines. This makes a complete circle, as if nothing was resolved. “I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow./I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.”
