Mae Hong Son … • Remote, mountainous, hilly terrain • Difficult access with infrastructural constraints • Long border with Myanmar causing insecurity • Different ethnic groups with its own distinctive languages & customs incl. large # migrants, local ethnic minorities, and refugees • Many with limited access to social services Human Achievement Index 2007 & 2009 = Lowestamongst all Thai provinces

  7. UNJP – Target Beneficiaries • Poor farmers in remote areas • Ethnic minorities • Migrants (mostly from Myanmar) • Displaced population (i.e. refugees residing within camps)

UNJP Objectives - Human Security Goals To improve the quality of life and reduce poverty among vulnerable groups in underserved areas through enhancing both Protection and Empowerment capacities • Increased Income/Productivity • Sustainable Natural Resources Management / Renewable Energy • Increased Access to Social Services (Health, Education, etc.)
