  2. In the 1870’s Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray both independently invented devices that could transmit speech. • Both went to go get them patented within hours of each other. Alexander got there first . • March 1875 Alexander went to meet with Joesph Henery to discuss his ideas for the telephone. • March 10 1876 the first telephone would be made.

  3. In 1866 Mahlon Lewis successfully demonstrated “wireless radio.” • In 1876 Emily Berliner invented the first microphone. • In 1878 the carbon microphone was invented by David Edward Hughes. • Also in 1878 the first music was put on record played “Yankee Doodle” • In 1887 Emilie Berliner was granted a patent on a flat disc gramophone

  4. In 1895 the first radio signal was sent to Italy. • In 1898 Valdemar Poulsen patens his Telegraphone. • In 1900 Valdemar introduces his invention. • In 1902 the first successful transatlantic radiotelegraph message. • In 1910 Enrico Caruso is heard on the first live broadcast.

  5. In 1912 Major Edwin F. Armstrong is issued a patent for a regenerative circuit making radio reception practical. • In 1919 The Radio Corporation of America (RCA) is founded. • 1921 the first Commercial A.M. radio broadcast is made by KDKA Pittsburgh,PA. • In 1926 O’Neill patens iron oxide-coated paper tape.

  6. In 1933 Magnetic recording on a steel wire is developed commercially. • In 1936 BASF makes the first tape recording of a symphony concert. • In 1940 Walt Disney’s “fantasia” is released with eight track steroforic sound.
